I got my passion for woodwork when I spent 6 months working as a deckhand on boats in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in the late 1980s. I sanded and varnished decks of 1930s sailboats and that sparked a passion for woodwork that has lasted all my life.
After raising a child I started doing furniture craft at Parkwood College, Sheffield, in 1997. I achieved my Advanced City and Guilds in furniture making in 2000 and then in 2003 a I got a B.Sc in Design and Technology from Sheffield Hallam University in 2006.
Since then I have taught woordwork and furniture making in schools and colleges around South Yorkshire.
